WHAT IS PROM (PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY)
Programmable read only memory is a variation of ROM i.e read only memory or we can say extended form of ROM . PROMS are programmed to record information using a special facility known as PROM - PROGRAMMER . ROM chips are supplied by the computer manufacturer and it is not possible for a customers to modify the program stored inside the ROM chips . However , it is possible for the user to customise the system by converting his own programs to micro programs and storing them in PROM chip . PROM is one in which data is burned by manufacturer . We can say the facility which is not possible in ROM to write any information is possible in PROM . But we can only write and read the information in PROM we cannot erase the information in PROM .
