WHAT IS PROM (PROGRAMMABLE READ ONLY MEMORY)  Programmable  read  only  memory   is  a  variation  of  ROM  i.e  read  only  memory  or  we  can  say  extended  form  of  ROM . PROMS  are  programmed  to  record  information  using  a  special  facility  known  as  PROM  - PROGRAMMER . ROM  chips  are  supplied  by  the  computer manufacturer  and  it  is  not  possible  for  a  customers  to  modify  the  program  stored  inside  the  ROM chips . WHAT IS ROM      So , after reading above passage of  ROM we can say it is mainly used to store data permanently and the information from ROM can only be read and its not possible to write fresh information into it . but two of the extended form of ROM  has come in which we can write the new information as well as erase the data . There are two extended forms of ROM one is 'Programmable read only memory' and second extended form of ROM  is 'Erasable programmable read only memory ' .
